History of Nepal

Nepal is the oldest country in Southeast Asia which despite being under multiple rivalries among the top dynasties of the medieval period has never been colonized by a European power. Earlier the country used to be known as ‘Nepali’ which was later changed to Nepal. The country houses a number of ancient monuments and sites that date back more than 2000 years ago and act as a major attraction point for tourists.

Geography and Climate

Nepal has a diverse landscape that ranges from 700m all the way to 8,848 m in Everest offering huge fluctuation in the climatic conditions of the country. Spread across 147, 516 sq km of land, the country is divided into three regions which include the Himalayan region, Mid Hill region and the Terai region. The country is home to 12 national parks and wildlife sanctuaries that act as natural habitats for a wide variety of animal and bird species. Nepal is known for its tropical climatic conditions that change in every 40-50 km. While northern Nepal is known for cool and freezing winters, the southern part of Nepal is known for hot and humid climatic conditions.

People and Culture

Nepal showcases a rich culture that has been developed from more than 125 tribes and ethnic groups who speak around 100 different types of languages. Limbu, Bhutia, Rai and Tamang are some of the dominant groups in the country. Nepali is the most spoken language followed by Hindi and Bhojpuri. The people of Nepal are very hard-working and highly depend on agriculture for their daily livelihood, while in the urban areas, people tend to have regular jobs in private firms and government authorities. Culture is what makes the country stand out from others. Music, dance and hospitality are a major part of their culture and are widely seen in every part of the country.

Visa and Formalities

Tourists need to apply for a visa before entering Nepal which is mostly granted for a period of 6 months. However, citizens of India can visit the country without any visa, but they need to provide identification documents such as an Adhaar and, a voter card at the terminal point of the Indo-Nepal border.
