Buddha Dordenma: Standing tall with 51 m of gold platter statue of Shakyamuni Buddha, Buddha Dordenma is one of the best places to visit in Thimphu. The site was built to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the fourth kind of Bhutan.
Tashichho Dzong: Located at a distance of 2km from the city of Thimphu, Tashichho Dzong is one of the oldest Dzongs of the country that was built in the year 1631. The monastery also serves as the secretariat of government.
Memorial Chorten: Popularly known as the Thimphu Chorten, the monument is located in the southern part of the city and is among the religious sites of the city. The Chorten is popular for its wall carvings, artwork and ancient monuments that reflect the history of Bhutan.
Motithang Takin Preserve: Takin is the national animal of Bhutan which is protected under the shed of Motithang Takin Preserve. Also known as the crown jewel of Thimphu, the area is also home to various species of animals and bird species making it an ideal place for nature lovers.
National Institute for Zorig Chusum: This is among the few painting schools in the country that teach the old way of painting and are dedicated to preserving the traditional art of Bhutan. From paintings, ornament making and carving, the institute teaches thirteen types of crafts.
Royal Textile Academy of Bhutan: Founded in the year 2005, the textile museum was built to preserve the traditional methods of weaving. The museum houses beautiful textiles some of which belong to the kings of Bhutan.
Simply Bhutan: Simply Bhutan is one of the finest museums of Thimphu that showcases the rich lifestyle of the old Bhutan. It offers tourists to witness the traditional songs, dance performances, clothes and utensils of old Bhutan.
Clock Tower Square: Situated in the central part of the town, Thimphu is the main attraction point of the city that includes a pillar with a four-sided watch and is mostly popular for its architectural marvel and vibrant lifestyle.
