History

Locally known as the ‘land of the hill people’, the state of Mizoram has a rich historical significance that dates back to the early 16th century. Used to be the major part of Assam, the region of Mizoram was annexed by the British East India Company in the year 1895. Later the Mizoram was created as the 23rd independent state of India in 1987.

Geography and Climate

Spread across 21, 081 sq km of land, the state of Mizoram is considered to be the smallest state in Northeast India. With more than 91% of its land covered in forest area, the place has a population of around 11 lakhs who are settled in between the dense forest of the state territory. The state of Mizoram has moderate climatic conditions which offer warm summers and cool winters making it ideal for tourism. The region is also considered one of the wettest places of the northeast with receiving annual rainfall of 1551.6 mm.

How to Reach Mizoram


Air : The state of Mizoram is well connected with the rest of the Indian state via airways. Lengpui Airport is the major airport in the state that operates with some of the biggest airline brands in the country.

Train : The state does not have any active rail routes, however, tourists can get access to the nearest railway station located in Silchar, Assam located at a distance of 6hr drive from the Aizawl.

Road : National Highway 54 is the only major highway that connects the state with other parts of the country. People can also take a local cab or private bus to travel the state.
