Mawsmai is one of the popular attractions in Cherrapunji. The cave, when compared to the world’s longest cave Krem Liat Prah, is very small. Where Krem Liat Prah may seem daunting, Mawsmai is quite doable even for beginners. Inside the cave, only a distance of 150 m is open for tourists. Rest of the cave system is off-limits. While exploring the cave, watch out for the low overhangs and uneven surface on the floor of the cave. Mawsmai Cave boasts of a large entrance. Once inside, it can quickly become a tight squeeze in some places. Some stretches will even make you crawl. Mawsmai Cave is popular for fossils. To be able to see these fossils (embedded sea organisms), you will need to study the cave walls and various formations. The cave floor has rivulets running through it.
